If you’re looking for something a little bit different to do for the upcoming holiday, check out BOOM Concepts’ two-day grand opening on July 3rd and 4th. BOOM Concepts is a community organization in Garfield that provides “space for collaboration across genre and discipline.” It’s an exhibition, studio, and workspace along the Penn Ave Arts Corridor for artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs who have common interest. BOOM Concepts is a collaboration of Jenesis Magazine and the Magic Organs artist collective.
From NEXT Pittsburgh:
…BOOM has plans to serve as much of the Bloomfield and Garfield populations as it can, by hosting community workshops in the space, with classes on topics such as finance and health and wellness coming later this summer. It’s already hosted a fashion show mounted entirely by local high school students, a vaudeville-style review from Rhinestone Steel Queer Pittsburgh, an organization working to enhance the city’s queer arts scene, and two Carnegie Mellon University visual arts exhibits.
On Thursday, July 3, you can enjoy their Unblurred exhibition which will include onsite studio tours of the Magic Organs workspace at BOOM Concepts, paired with the paintings, prints and photos of five BOOM endorsed artists in the main exhibition space.
On Friday, July 4, BOOM Concepts will hold an Open House from 6:00 PM-11:00 PM. There will be musical performances by Rashad A. Henderson and Anqwenique, free massages, treats from Sweet Little Eats by Briana Jackson, and other activities. And, what’s the 4th without a cookout? Outside there will be a BBQ fundraiser with $5 plates (including a drink) with vegetarian and meat options available.
BOOM Concepts is located at 5139 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224 and you can find out more about the event here.
